    Egg Laying Problems

    Hey all,

Ok, so my creamcicle corn, Anada has laid 13 eggs but now she stopped and I think I know why. She is in the middle of shed. She still has 2 eggs one near her vent and one up further. Has anyone experienced this? She has me worried because she has also been off feed for about 40 days too. I am waiting to hear back from the Vet today but I thought I would ask the group if I should just chill until she sheds. I am under the theory of the big poop with my burm who wont poo until he sheds then he lets it rip . If you have any experience with this that would be great. Thanks all,

    Rick

I wish I had any advice to give you, but I've got nothing. I just wanted to wish you luck with those last two eggs, and let you know I've got my fingers crossed for you.

    Re: Egg Laying Problems

I realize you're talking about a corn snake, but here's a recent thread about an eggbound ball python:

At the very least, there's some good information to discuss with your vet...and maybe some help for you.

I wish I could be more specific, and maybe one of our experienced corn breeders will be along before too long. Good luck with her!!

Thanks, She seems to be real tired. This is my first attempt breeding anything and this was one of my first snakes. I am worried about her and I have been soaking her and they have moved so I hope we can get them out with no damage to her. Thanks and I will wait for more,

So I spoke to the vet. He suggests surgery but wont be in the office until Saturday. We will have to wait an see I hate the idea of surgery for her but if it has to be.

    Re: Egg Laying Problems

Ouch! What about aspirating the eggs as was discussed in that thread I linked to? I'm not sure what's involved, but I imagine it has something to do with piercing the egg with a needle/syringe and drawing the insides out...then the snake can pass the collapsed egg. Still sounds icky, but not nearly so traumatic as surgery. I'd at least ask about it.

    Re: Egg Laying Problems

I was thinking about it but the Vet seemed real against it. He said one drob of yoke in the belly and it's like an apendix in humans, it will cause a huge infection. I dont know right now. I hope that she sheds and lays these all at once and has no more problems. She isnt blue anymore so maybe she will shed tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. Thanks for your help

    Re: Egg Laying Problems

Rick you might want to try to phone a couple of larger corn breeders for some practical advice. I'm sure most of them won't mind. This isn't a thing to play about with so I'd go right to the source and start googling for the bigger corn breeders and then start dialling and asking for advice.

    Re: Egg Laying Problems

    Well heres an update.

Took Anada to the vet and he drew 10cc's off the first egg and 14cc's off the second. Now its a waiting game to see if she passes them. The x-ray looked ok so now we wait........

Thanks for all your help and concern
