Back-ish!
We are back from our trip to the Caribbean! All expenses paid conference for Karen's work sort of thing, a reward for all her hard work. It was amazing, and an experience we'd probably never have otherwise. We got to go on a cruise for 4 days that took us from Miami to Key West to Nassau then back again. It was super surreal for a pair of penny pinching homebodies like us!
We didn't take our digital camera but had a bunch of one use water-proof ones, so if any of the pics come out nice I'll post them here. Especially of the snorkling and stingrays. That was the best part of the trip. Wearing my Wildlife Warrior wristband, I swam with a group of lovely stingrays in Nassau who were absolutely amazing. Steve wouldn't want people to be afraid of these gorgeous animals so when we got to choose from a list of excursions, that was an easy choice. They felt like giant flat velvet water kitties brushing up by us, lol! So amazing. We also got to hear parrotfish crunching at the reef below us, and dozens of stripey fish that I couldn't identify. We're also sunburned as hell since sunblock is bad for the rays.
In Nassau, I also saw some lizards I'm hoping pics came out of because they were super fast! I'm really curious as to what they were, they had flat-ish faces and tails that curled up almost like chameleons when they ran around. I've never seen anything like them! So cute and strange!
It's good to be home, although our geriatric kitty is having issues again. Our super awesome petsitter http://furandfeatherpetsitting.com kept very detailed track of how things were going and Cleo's been consuming huge amounts of water, and just today she started squatting and straining all over so it's likely her bladder/kidney again. Weeee. So good timing for getting home and getting that taken care of. Hopefully it will be much less traumatic than the epic Daphne adventure, and we'll just need to change her food/give her shots for a week again. Also Neptune just shed and pooed, and I am SO glad the sitter didn't have to deal with that lol!
So yes, I still live, mostly getting back to work and reoriented (I feel like the apartment is swaying like a boat!) and also trying to resist the addictive draw of World of Warcraft. (seriously... this game is like crack... beware the free 10 day trial, you'll be forking over monthly monies in no time.) I know I don't post or comment much lately, but I'm always reading my favorite snake forum!

Welcome back!
Sounds like you two had a blast. What a great sounding trip. I'd love to do that one day! You are very very very lucky!
Also good luck to your kitty.

Re: Back-ish!
Thank you! It was REALLY surreal. I mean, Karen and I both came from single mom households who were making it paycheck to paycheck, disability in Karen's mom's case, and we currently have neither a car nor cable TV. When we got on the ship, first thing I said to her was "We're not in Kansas anymore!" To be that spoiled and pampered and not have to worry about cost was just... unbelievable. I think we thanked the crew too much, heh. Karen even got to meet the vice president and president of her company! We're incredibly grateful for the opportunity, it was amazing.
Hopefully we'll have a happy Cleo and good pics to share soon!

Re: Back-ish!
And isn't it wonderful because of those backgrounds you are both that aware of this blessing and are grateful for it. So many have so much and aren't a bit grateful for any of it. It's wonderful to just see your happiness glow through your words! Welcome back!

Re: Back-ish!
It really is, and thanks Jo! I've known a few people who've had things handed to them on a silver platter their whole lives, and I gotta say... I don't envy them. They're some of the most unhappy people I've met and genuinely have no idea how good they have it. I'm grateful for our rough experiences, well worth an appreciative perspective.
