    can a bp sneeze?

I was feeding jimmy today and after he finished eating he yawned 3 times and also did something that i can only describe as a sneeze. I have never seen this happen before, what's going on?

I thought they didn't have a diaphragm, which is why they're more prone to RI... Don't you need a diaphragm to sneeze? I dunno.

i once had a honduran that sneezed,i finally changed his substrate to newspaper and he stopped.this can be a sign of a URI so watch him closely or consult a vet.

    Re: can a bp sneeze?

Ball can't sneeze. More than likely what you heard was a quick hiss. I've heard them do a quick hiss after feeding if they are feeling insecure right after. But keep and eye on him for a URI

    Re: can a bp sneeze?

Snakes sometimes yawn after feeding to realign their jaw.

They can also yawn excessively due to having a respritory infection.

When your snake "sneezed," did anything come out of its nostrils?

You may want to describe your set up so more help can be provided to you in this thread.

they can kinda of sneeze...mine has done it before...it happens when there is too much humidity/water in the cage. It got in his nose and you would just see bubbles form.

    Re: can a bp sneeze?

They cant sneeze, its impossible. May have done something that you thought was a sneeze, but its usually due to some ill effect. May have been a hiss, some they rarely do anyway then when you hear it its like wtf is that a sneeze?

LOL this thread is making me giggle. Not because it was a stupid question or anything, just I get this image of like a comical looking BP sneezing. I humor myself.

    Re: can a bp sneeze?

Well the tank is a 40, and I use a felt-like washable substrate, he has 2 hides, one on the warm and cool sides, a few branches and a bowl for water which rests over a portion of the heat source for humidity. The srcreen is covered up mostly with press and seal and then duct taped for security. the ambient temp is 80-83 degrees and humidity averages 60% currently. However, in the past the averages were probably somewhere around 74 degrees and 40% humidity before I learned proper husbandry about a week ago and got a hygrometer/thermometer... from what I gather, a good chance of RI? What can I do? Is this fatal? Paranoid!!!

    Re: can a bp sneeze?

If he is developing an RI there will be other signs to watch for so you can catch it before it gets too bad. I *thankfully* haven't ever had to deal with one before so maybe someone with more experiance can fill in any gaps I leave (or correct me )...

If you notice any weezing/popping type noise when he breaths, and if there is any fluid or mucus like substance in his mouth that you can see. Yawning more than usual could also be a sign, but yawning right after he ate is pretty normal. I would just keep an eye on him, and maybe bump up the temps a bit...what you have is good for the cool side (80-83) but you need a warm side as well at about 90-93.

And yes, RIs are fatal, but there are signs if your watching for them and if you take him to a vet when you notice them, they can give you antibiotics to fight it. Again, I would just keep an eye on him and I'm thinking you will see the signs if he has one.
