Infrared possibly disrupting snake??

Hi guys, I was under the impression that snakes couldn’t see infrared light. I recently purchased one because I’ll be out of town for a couple of days and it keeps my temps up. So I guess since the light is on at night maybe it’s disrupting his night/day cycle. His attitude has completely change he no longer comes out at night and moves around the terrarium. He used to always comes out when I m on my way to bed but now he always stays in his hide. So I’m pretty sure that the light is throwing him off, what do you guys think?

Constant roaming is a sign of stress.

The fact that your BP is staying comfortably in one of his hides during the night leads me to believe that the change you made was actually a positive thing. A ball python that roams night after night is trying to tell you that something isn't right. Were you turning off all heat/light at night?

By adding another heat source you have changed your setup. What were your temps/humidity before the light and now what are they?


Balls will roam when stressed but they will also stay and hide when stressed. Double check everything and let us know.

No, before i would just turn off the day light and put in a blue moon light, to provide a little heat.

Lord Jackel: before temps were 89 on the warm side and 79 on cool, humidity was between 45-55

Now with the 24 hour infrared heat, temps are constantly 93 warm and 85 cool he pretty much stays on the cool side. Humidity is around 50-60...yeah now he basically puts his head half way out and just looks, gets water and goes back in

I know it might seem strange, but that is a sign of a happy BP! If he's comfortable in one of his hide, that's a good thing!
