Snake hasn't ate in 3 weeks!

    Hello all,
My BP hasn't ate in almost 3 weeks. His environment hasn't changed and his temps and humidity is great. The last time he ate, it was a good size mouse for his size (he's almost 2 feet long), I'm just wondering if this is why he isn't eating. Also, he has been known to go 2 weeks without eating. Does anybody have any advice?!?!

what are your temps? warm and cool side.

    how old is he?

do you feed weekly? do you have a set day you feed on? do you ever take breaks from feeding?

Re: Snake hasn't ate in 3 weeks!

well BP's are knows for eating fits, mine went about 3weeks without eating, then all of a sudden boom, he went right after it. Good way to help prevent it, (most likley cant eliminate the fussyness completely) but always feed on scedule, like every monday when the sun goes down, i found it a better time being they are more active at night. make sure its warm enough and humid enough ~90warm ~80 cool, ~50+ humidity. Also i just found out today that pre scenting the enclosure works great. I put the mouse in his little box with the holes faceing down ontop of the tank for about 5-10min, as soon as i put the mouse in there the snake jumped out of his hide and was in "hunt mode".

Also its adviced not to try and feed everyday if he is not eating, it stresses them out and will probably just make the situation worse. and also dont leve the mouse in the tank alive for more than 30min. make sure its warm, ive heard sometimes they dont get a good enough heat sense from the mouse and just wont be interested in it. sorry for the lenglthy response just trying to help.

wow it feels good to know something and be able to help, you herp originaters must feel good lol, well hopefully that works for you. good luck. if all els fails maybe try a f/t, who knows what will work after all.

Re: Snake hasn't ate in 3 weeks!

Ball pythons seem to be hit and miss at times three weeks isn't that bad just keep offering at the regular feeding times.

Consistency seems to be the key after all the husbandry needs are met and the snake is healthy.

By consistent I'm mean offer the mouse/rat and if they refuse just offer again next week. If they do refuse I wouldn't attempt to feed again any sooner than if they would have eaten b/c then your more likely to stress the animal out.

As long as your husbandry is spot on and your snake has been checked out and is healthy, I wouldn't worry too much. I just had one eat after a 6 month fast.
