    proximity of snakes

Just bought some mice to start a colony but i wanted to know how far away they must be from the snakes. I want to make sure they are far enough away so that the snakes don't smell them and go into hunting mode. As of now i have them outside the room in a hallway closet. Will this be far enough away?

    Re: proximity of snakes

they can be in the same room... doesn't seem to make a difference to them. they smell them 'closer' when they are placed on the top of the enclosure for a few minutes (approx 10-20) and then into the enclosure to eat.

    Re: proximity of snakes

I had a rat breeder/feeder colony housed in the same room as our snakes for a long while. I can't honestly say it seemed to key up the snakes. They pretty much ate with the same reaction weekly as they do now with the rodents in another room. My biggest mistake back then would be feeding the rats and forgetting to wash up before going to check snake tubs....not a smart thing to do LOL.
