    Hog Island- crosses or no?

Since another thread went slightly off topic and it seemed many people have their valid opinions to boast out (including me, haha) I was hoping we could get a POLITE and FRIENDLY thread going on this topic. Thanks!

I would rather see them kept pure because there is so much dishonesty in the market and although I can appreciate things like sunsets and hypo hogs, the normals cross mutts are usually just ugly

Pure All the way. Once they are all mutted out, we aren't getting any more pure hoggs

I agree, but as Jimmi said it has to be from people that are trustworthy. That is why I have done research after research on the hoggs. I found them all over kingsnake.. but, when I spoke to them, they all could "promiss" me that they are pure until I asked for lineage and old breeders and they had no idea... So, i didnt buy them.... and then this popped up.. like the heavens opened up!!!

... now I know those are pure for sure and I got ground level stock that is not washed out. Why, they came from one of the best.. thanks again Kara.

I will never cross anything with the females, but the male I will breed to a hypo for sure..

I think the key to this is, to do what is right by you. I cant hold everyone's hand and make sure they are doing the right thing, and we all know others are going to do it.... just look at KS.

But, I know I can make sure I AM doing the right thing.. and that is how I will build a great reputation. Great stock, that the lineage is trackable, and honesty.. you can cross all day long with those two ingredients.

(thanks guys for having a clean discussion.. it is nice to get great responses without name calling and mud slinging.. I really do enjoy reading what others think and feel)

good post sevo, sounds like you thought out your breeding plans very thoroughly and you bought beautiful animals. i must say even though i said keep them pure, i was just thinking about it and wondering what a true hog super sonoran cross would look like, since the super sonorans look just like bad a** hogs on steroids. anyway, i still like 'em pure

I couldn't imagine what a sunset X to my suri hypo would make. I wouldn't intentially mess up the clean hoggs though

Nice pick up Sevo! I have a male from that stock (and have seen one of the females in person) and they are smokin! I would have jumped on that deal if I had the cash laying around. Good luck with the project!

    Keep em pure!!

Re: Hog Island- crosses or no?

i have nothing against crossing hogs... nothing at all... except when they are sold as pure and you end up with a cross (like what happened to me). i wanted a pure... asked for a pure... paid the price for a pure... and in the end... got a cross.

*i did get a refund of some of my money*

IMO it was kinda like buying a het, paying for a het and finding out in the end you just have a normal ball...

i did vote for crossing... if the seller is honest about the lineage. cause there are some pretty crosses out there
