The snake in that picture is a black-eyed leucistic ball python....of which, there are only a very small handful in the whole world. I seriously doubt any one of them (they sell for thousands of dollars) would end up neglected in the hands of someone who didn't know what it was, and then given over to someone else.

Leucustic rat snakes are relatively common and that is far more likely...even if the eye color doesn't seem typical. The best thing you could do would be to get a picture of the actual snake to show us here. Only then would we be able to say for sure what it was. (If it's a decent picture....preferably a variety of pics of different features of the snake, as well as a full-body pic)
