    Flexwatt On both sides?

I have a cool basement and my snakes are in 41 quart containers. I have 11 inch flexwatt on the hot side but my cold side stays about 70. Anyone use one on both sides? Should i just use the 3 inch to put on the cold side? I plan to build a room for my snakes but cant just right now. Anyone else have a cold basement with snakes? Does a rack realy help hold in heat?

You can use it on both side but remember it will mean you will need one thermostat to achieve and maitain 90-94 on the warm side and a second thermostat to achieve and maintain 80-84 on the coold side.

Another simpler solution would be to buy a oil filled space heater to place in your basement to keep the room at 80 degrees.

This is exactly what I did. My 11 inch is run off my helix and then I have a 3 inch strip on the cool side running off of a dimmer. Temps are a pain to keep constant so I ordered a rack and its being delivered. I'll let you know how it goes with the temperatures; as of right now my tubs are on these steel racks. I had to insulate the bottom of the tubs to reflex the heat up, I was initially losing a lot of heat without it.

    Re: Flexwatt On both sides?

See i was having a prob keeping it even at 80 degrees with a space heater it was just raising up into my house.

Yes i would buy a second thermostat for the cool side i think it would be cheaper in the long run with electric going up.
Would i need only 3 inch flexwatt for the cold side?
Does this work in racks as well?
    Anyone else do this?

More economically you can get flexwatt for the cold side and buy a rheostat to turn down the heat of the flexwatt, plug it into the thermostat you use for the hotside and you are all set!

So there is no need for a second thermostat? Just get some 3 inch and put it on a diy dimmer plug? Should i connect all the containers to one dimmer? then to the thermostat? Have you had luck doing it like this?

    Re: Flexwatt On both sides?

I used to use flexwatt and an infrared but my humidity was terrible. Right now I have two pieces of flexwatt one of them is on a dimmer turned down to 86 as digitally measured on the substrate. The dimmer is plugged into the thermostat as well as the hotside flexwatt. The thermostat is set so the hotside is at 93 and the cold side just ends up being 83 as a result. In the winter I turn up the dimmer and in the summer I turn it down to compensate for my room changes. It works great and my humidity is perfect now!

    Re: Flexwatt On both sides?

As an added option that I just thought of, my friend bought one of those Repti-therm UTH heat pads. He says their max temp is around 88 degrees. This could easily be dimmed to provide a nice safe cool side. Just a thought.
