As for the number of holes, you should just get a humidity meter and test until you get the right number. This can be very frustrating. I am going through this right now.

I have put so many holes in a tub that I start to question the structural integrity and I can't get below 54% humidity in my basement. Even with a de-humidifier running at 35% less than 2 feet away. Maybe someone can help us both out.
54% is okay. have you tried running a fan in the room?
