Dave Reid sent me pics of his Sulphurs and they appear low in browns and blacks with the yellow showing more. He proved them to be dominant and this year he will see if they are co-dom. So when you combine them with other morphs they produce less of the darker colors but I don't think they shed clear like a ghost but a ghost sulphur would probably be real clean!

The Sulfur has been bred into the Mojave too, and gives the Mojave a lighter look and a maroon tint. Basically, the Sulfur does what someone said it looks like they do, and that is, they clean up and brighten up existing morphs. The thing about the Sulfur that is interesting is that as babies, most Morphs look their best, but with Sulfurs, they have the ugly duckling syndrome, and look like milk chocolate colored normals as babies, but eventually lighten up, and turn into a very pleasing toffee colored ball, looking like a toffee hypo. To give credit to everyone, Eric Sandoval was involved in the first breeding, his Mojave Het Hypo male to my unproven at the time Sulfur female, that has now proven genetic. Wow, where did the sulfurs and embers come from? Were they found (WC, CH) or did they come unexpectedly out of breeding something?

I purchased two females back in like 2000 or so, at a local reptile only store here in the San Diego area. Both snakes were in one large aquarium, with a male Hypo. The male Hypo was obviously a Ghost, probably a yellow Ghost of some sort, nice, but I had a much nicer male orange Ghost, so I was not interested in him. The two females were adults, one a bit smaller, but they were both at least 1500 grams. The story I got was that a customer of the store brought all three in. It looked to me like someone was putting togather a Hypo breeding project, because of the male Ghost and the two females, both similar looking, and both Hypo looking, but not obvious Ghosts or not obvious genetic Hypos. The female Sulfur looks like a toffee hypo with a maroon tint, the Ember female looks like a toffe hypo, no maroon tint at all. I paid normal prices for both of the females.

In 03 or 04, I bred my male Ghost to the snake I now refer to as the original Sulfur female. I used way too much water in the incubation process, and all 10, yes all 10! eggs molded. There were 10 eggs and 1 slug.

The female I now call the original EmberBall female was taken to the vet almost immediately after I got her, she just had an odd look to ab out 4 inches of her body. The Vet x-rayed her, and found she had several compressed ribs. I have no idea how she got them, but at that point, I really liked her, loved her look, so I decided to retire her to a 4x2 foot melamine cage, and just keep her comfortable, and well fed. She was an ok eater, not great, but she seemed ok in the melamine cage. Long story short, she eventually started eating like crazy, pigging out like she had never seen a rat before, and thought it would be her last. She got really large, fat, and kind of selfishly, I decided to breed her to my male Ghost in 05. What hatched looked like Ghosts, but later was told they looked like a Co Dom animal, and not a simple recessive Hypo. I think they will prove to be a Fire. Both the 1.1 Embers from 05 are Het Hypos too. I had several eggs mold from this clutch too, but the two that hatched are amazing, and flawless.

In 05, I did a breeding loan with the Sulfur female, breeding Eric Sandoval's Mojave Het Hypo male to my Sulfur female---at the time, we thought we would get Hypos, and Hypo Mojaves from this breeding. We got 2 normals and 6 Mojaves out of the 8 eggs, with 4 of the Mojave's looking ODD. The four odd Mojaves we called Mojave crosses. NO simple Sulfurs were produced in 05, just normals, Mojaves and the Mojave crosses. In 06, I bred a Pastel and Ghost to the Sulfur female, and it became obvious the Pastel got the job done, producing the first ever Pastel Sulfurs and the plain, uncrossed morph, along with a few normals. Eric actually produced the first uncrossed Sulfurs a few weeks before I did, and mine and his looked virtually identical.

In 06, I got one egg and 4 slugs from the original EmberBall, from a Pastel breeding. The egg hatched out the most amazing Pastel you have ever seen. Unfortunately, the snake was born very small, calcified yolk was found in the egg, the snake never shed, never fed on its own, and died after a life of about 4 months. I was very bummed!

Bottom line, I think the Ember is probably a Fire, I think the Sulfur is something totally new. The Sulfur acts to really lighten up existing morphs, the Sulfur Mojave is amazing, and the Sulfur Pastel looks like he is plugged into a light socket. We should have Supers this year or for sure next year. As far as if they were WC originally, I doubt it, they look too good, no scars, no marks on them, and ate. Where they originally came from I have no idea.
