    Switching to a tub

Hey guys! I've been wanting to switch my BP to a tub for a while now, and I just convinced my mom to let me. So i just have a couple of questions before I go get my stuff.

What size tub do I need for a full grown bp?

If I just use an UTH, will that be enough heat, or do I need a heat lamp also?

And If you have pictures of your set-ups, please post them!

    All help is greatly appreciated!!

I use 41qt tubs for the adults along with some flexwatt (UTH) and a thermostat.

    Re: Switching to a tub

    You can use a 41 Quarts (34 3/4"L x 16 1/2"W x 6"H)

You need to provide belly heat with either flexwatt heat tape or an UTH plugged into a thermostat to provide proper temps and avoid overheating.

    You don't need a lamp.

Just make sure to put plenty of ventilation holes in that TUB.

I just did this in another thread, but I'll do it here, too. Just an example of how I have mine set up (this is for a young BP, though--but for an adult it'd be the same, just larger ).

Photo of the flexwatt I use to heat the bottom, with my Herpstat probe taped to it:

I've got 11" on my young'un's tub--I just have to let the extra tape stick out of the end of one side a bit, so it's not covering too much of the bottom. When I move up a tub size, I'm planning on using the 1ft of 11" Flexwatt on that tub, too.

I'll let someone else chime in about what size flexwatt they use for their 41QTs, but I'm pretty sure most people use 1ft of 11" Flexwatt on their adult tubs.

I'm glad I found BP.net before I decided to purchase my BP/the stuff for my BP. Otherwise, I might have done the same expensive, unnecessary Aquarium setup, too!

I use 11" on my 41 qt's. Depending on your setup and room conditions you can get away with 3" as well.

Wink Re: Switching to a tub

If you are not comfortable wiring cords to flex watt you can buy a exo terra heat pad made by hagen. they are very inexpensive and work great. just take out of box and plug in. it would be a good idea to use a thermostat or some other way to control the temperature.
