hello all you nice snake people!

Hi, there. I'm Maggie. I only just found this place, because of my vet of all people! He said there was a place on the internet where I could ask questions about Smeagol, my ball, and have people answer rather than look vaguely disgusted because I'm a girl with a snake.

I've had another ball, who had such an embarrassing name that I think poor Schnookems committed suicide. And a ghost corn snake named Nagini who my cat thought would be cooler if she was ripped in half in my bed. Smeagol is just filling the void. He's captive-bred, and getting over a mild respiratory infection.

    Anyway, my pet list is:
    1. Smeagol, ball
    2. Leonardo DaVinci, green iguana
    3. Stardust, dumpy tree frog
    4. Kelly, ancient calico cat
    5. Bastet, curious calico kitten with the crazy eyes
    6. Shade, the killer of Nagini. Suitably, a black cat.
    7. Gordon, the male cat of our family.
and because I prefer even numbers, I'll include
    8. Sphinx, stray that I feed but won't let indoors

I hope I'll never need to ask questions, but it's nice to know that if the need arises, there are folks out there who know the answers.

Hi Maggie, and welcome! I have 8 ball pythons, and still have plenty to learn from the more experienced keepers here, so never be afraid to ask a question!

So what happened to Schnookums? And how did Smeagol get an RI? I think that's usually due to low temps in the enclosure, so I'm wondering what your temps are, and what your setup is in general.

Welcome to the forum, and sorry about the losses of your other two snakes. I'm wondering if your first ball python passes away from a respiratory infection, since your current one is being treated for one.

Could you describe your set up so we can help you keep Smeagel healthy? Sounds like your temps may be a little too cool. What are you using for heat, and how do you measure your temps.

And we need to get your enclosure escape proof and keep kitty in another room when handling!

You came to the right place!

Welcome! This place is different than many other forums on ball pythons - the people here are great, answer questions readily and act like a close community of friends. So if you have any questions, ask away!

Re: hello all you nice snake people!

Oh please! I had a stupid pet store employee almost refuse to take a big ball python out for me to examine because, in his words, "girls usually scream when I hand them snakes". I would have dearly loved to smack the sneer off his face. Instead I quickly glanced around their trashy little pet store, counted snakes and made a rather loud comment about how I had more snakes in my house than they had in their store and I best get home to feed them!

Oh and I told them their supposed small rats were the size of my healthy weanlings....blech!
