How do snakes act when they are hungry?

I thought my snake was hungry because he was hanging out by his water. Someone told me that snakes go near water to look for rodents who are coming to get a drink. We got him his meal and he didn't eat it. We tried again the next day and nothing. One more day went by and he finally ate it. His is on small rats now. How often should he eat? We have been trying every 10 days. Is that too soon? How long is too long without eating?

Re: How do snakes act when they are hungry?

one of my snakes would eat everyday if i let it, she's a fatty....but i feed mine every6-7 days, usually sat or sunday...when i know mine are hungary, they start stretching out and lurking around the spot my tongs enter their enclosure. i'm sure all snakes are diff but once you get them on a pattern they will more than likely stay there....i moved to a new house on a friday this month and their feeding day was saturday and they BOTH ate...

Re: How do snakes act when they are hungry?

We feed our sub adults and adults once a week on Sunday evening. Hatchlings and juvis we feed twice a week. Of course, during breeding season, the adults are usually off feed.

Our snakes seem to "cruise" their tubs when they're hungry and waiting for food. They seem to be much more active . . . .

    Good luck!

You can tell mine know it's feeding day when they start to poke their heads out of their hides and frantically smell the air with their tongues.
