    Not Using Hides Question

I house my ball in a good sized 41 qt tub. At first he was using the hides I provided him (two identical black bowls with entrance holes cut into them) but now he wraps himself around the hides and just lays on the substrate. I just want to know if this is normal. I'm not too worried about it because he's not roaming the tub nervously, just not staying in the hides. The tub is in an isolated room with no outside intrusion except for when I check on him. Does the tub provide enough security for him that he doesn't feel the need to use the hides?

Sounds to me like he's just feeling super-comfy in his home.

He did the same with me Sometimes he's in the hides but mostly he "hung out". Not roaming, just chillin.

    mine does that sometimes too!

if there's a lot of movement in the room though he'll retreat to inside a hide

Good to know I'm glad he's comfortable. He just kind of lays there and if I open the lid, he moves around a little and looks at me.

this is dumb, but check for a poop in the hide

I can always tell where the poop is by looking where the snake is not LOL

Actually he took a gigantic gargantuan poop the other day after his PERFECT shed. And you know what he did? I swear to god he wallowed in it. LOL

    Re: Not Using Hides Question

My favorite is when they do a perfect shed, one you might want to keep or show off...but they wrap it up nicely with a big, stinky turd in the center...blech! (how they manage this without opposable thumbs is beyond me lol).

As long as your temps are fine and the hides are of the appropriate size for the snake I wouldn't worry about it much. Ours use their hides, hang around outside the hide, laze on top of the hide...pretty much whatever they feel like doing at the moment.
