2 Escapes in 24 hrs. What a mess!!!

Last night I bought 2 new sterilite drawers for my bp's. Got them all set up get the humidity right and temps right. Move them over to the drawers thinking they were snake proof. I was wrong.

My Largest about 500 grams got out. I had a bad feeliing about him getting out but I put it to the back of my mind. I checked an hour later on them and guess what he was gone. I immediately started checking under the bed (new drawers placed next to my bed, small apartment). Found him slithering around my gun cases. So i had to re-setup his old tub and put him back in there. While setting his old tub back up I re-setup the others tub. I put my smaller one back in his old tub too.

I go to bed about 11:30 wake up this morning check the snakes and everything. Guess what? My smaller about 320 grams is missing. He managed to pull the screen down from the top enough to escape. Oh's No's I'm thinking. so i check under all of the heaters in my apartment ( a whole 3) and couldnt find. I checked every where. I decide to check under the stove. Not there. I open the drawer of the stove check there. Not there. i closed it fairly slow trying not to slam it because i know they like to get into the tracks of drawers. It stops near the end of closing, I look under thhe drawer and I found him in between the drawer and stove. I had to lift the stove up to get him out but he was fine.

So all in all this has been the most event full 24hrs of my snake keeping career. It took me about 30 minutes total to find the 2 snakes. But from now on I am checking all the little things on their tubs everyday.

Thanks for reading, whoever does. I had to vent.

Glad that you found them Have had Zeke escape plenty of time...my fault for not realizing he was strong enough to pop the top! They are definitely little Houdini's

Are you talking about the Sterilite drawers that come like three high? Those are notorious for not being escape proof. Many have tried them and many have had the same experience you did.

I'm so glad your guys were found and are back home! Oh how I pray that Nag never escapes! I have 5 cats and 5 dogs at the house right now... so if he didn't get lost in the walls or something he'd likely be killed

Yeah it could have been worse. I cant beleive you still haven't found yours. How many days has it been? 3 or 4? Good luck finding yours.

They are the single drawers. They are pretty big. I am going to work on them today to get them snake proof. They are stackable. I just found them it's a new model I think.

Wow, glad to see that you found the snakes. I guess it helps not having a huge apartment.. it would be worse to have some snakes escape, if you lived in a huge 30-room mansion, I guess!

Yeah its just a studio apartment. I am getting ready to move though and its going to be a lot tougher finding them if they get out in my new place.

Ack!! You're lucky you found them so quickly!- one of my boys got out and he was missing for nearly 2 months before I found him just slithering on the floor one day - straight for the rats

it took me a few weeks to find my two snakes who escaped on the same day. one eaten by the cats and the other one safe under a 90 gallon fish tank stand.
