Tape for heat tape

How do you get heat tape to stick? I'm using electrical tape as per the instructions, but after a few hours, the tape releases.

Foil Tape. It holds better than most anything. You can get it at any home improvement store.

You can also use clear shipping tape.
That is what Boaphile recommends.

Metal/foil tape conducts electricity. So to be safe rather than sorry Jeff @ Boaphile uses and recommends clear shipping tape.

I have been using it and it works great.

If your heat tape is wired correctly, there should be no worries about the tape conducting electricity. I would rather use foil tape and get a small shock so I can fix the problem than to not know and have a big problem later.

I think the concern Jeff pose to me was not so much that in the beginning that the tape is wired correctly but that later on it could wear or get a small pin hole or such. Which if happened unless you are always playing with your heat tape you would never know or get shocked until to late.

I am not here to debate but just offering another form of tape that can be used. Has worked for Jeff in his private collection/breeding for years and is working fine for me. That foil tape is meant to seal hvac ducts not to be use on electric sources, not saying it doesn't work and hasn't worked for you or many others. I personally would rather take or try to have zero chances of problems. Clear tape is not meant to be used on heat sources, but if failure would happen it doesn't conduct.
In the grand scheme of things use whatever you feel comfortable with.
I was just offering another workable option.
