Adventures
YAY, INTERNETS!
Man, what a week. We've been without a computer for more than a week now, and it's been very painful. We use it for everything.
First, we've been having lots of issues with it for a while then suddenly we couldn't access anything. We called a guy who made the snap judgement that it was a virus and he'd try and retrieve our data and reinstall Windows. It was promised back to us on Monday. So we went about our other plans.
We rented a car to do some heavy lifting errands as well as head up to Scottsdale for my tattoo retouch and another tat I've been planning for a while. We get a lot done, then when Karen goes to return the rental someone had broken into it. Which is as per usual with our complex, and part of why we aren't currently bothering to own a car. The complex has also started marking all the trees, including the one that shields our apt from the AZ summer sun and houses a hummingbird family, to be cut down. We hope to move, sadly not out of state yet, but out of this complex by the end of this year.
Monday comes, no computer. He keeps putting us off till Thursday when he says he'll come by with it. Plugs it in... nothing. Man is confused, and Karen and I are getting pretty frustrated. So we pay him for the data retrieval, and he waves the service charge, and we decide to look up somebody else regretting canceling the Friday Geeksquad appt in favor of getting it done asap. A co-worker of Karen's mentions that her son-in-law does this kind of thing, and he said he'd take a look at it no charge. It's not a virus, it's the motherboard. We need a new computer.
It all turned out to be a blessing in disguise, albiet an expensive one (especially as we're still trying to recover from the Daphne vet bills) because the refurbished HP we ended up getting is a GREAT deal and super fast! Woo hoo! And while we still need to get our drive and all our data back from the wonderfully sweet guy who helped us find out what the problem really is, we have internets again!
It's been that sort of year. So yes, I'm more or less back sorta kinda! I've been pretty quiet lately so nobody probably noticed, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Re: Adventures
hey, wow that was pretty crazy i've had some pretty good adventures of my own lately. last thursday i was on here telling 'all how i got stuck in Ben GUrion Airport overnite trying to get home well EEEeeearly friday morning (2/3ish) i went back to the airport and flew (as planned) to Zurich (which was supposed to be an hour long stop on the way to America).....so i'de been in airports almost nonstop and now early friday afternoon im in Zurich.....
Then the proverbial feces hit the fan. i was informed that due to weather JFK was not allowing any flights in....so here i am 2 days late coming home AND STUCK IN ZURICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so i spent the weekend in Zurich by a couple of new found (almost) relatives...you see unbeknownst to me my dad thought that i might get stuck so he phoned his sister, who asked her husband if they new anyone from Zurich (her husband has a lot of wierd connections all over the world) and as luck would have it my uncle(thru marriage) has cousins who live in Zurich.....
long story short i spent a lovely weekend in Zurch and flew home sunday morning....i left my dorm room at 2:00am thursday morning4 and arrived home 4 1/2 days later...just a day (or extended weekend) in the life...

Re: Adventures
Oh geez, that is crazy! Kind of reminds me of the movie "The Terminal", have you seen that? This year is nuts though, one thing after another. Seems like it's being that way for lots of people!

Re: Adventures
WOOT! Data retrieval semi accomplished! I lost all my roboforms, half my programs, and all my Degei records (I think, still seeing if I can dredge those up) but all the important art files are recovered. Whew!
Now lets see if I can remember how to find/set up the other half of these things.
