As I have never had to deal with mites personally, I pass this on to the group.

To eradicate snake mites completely there is only one product that is safe to use with reptiles and it is PAM (Provent-A-Mite) you can purchase it online at http://entirelypets.stores.yahoo.net/proventamite.html

Other products do not treat all the stages of development of the mites which mean a re-infestation will occur

Now for clear mites as mentioned by this person it is likely due to the substrate and what needs to be done his to bake the substrate.

For more info about snake mites I would recommend you to read this http://www.vpi.com/publications/the_life_history_of_snake_mites

    x2 for PAM

I recently get an infestation of mites for the first time in 6 months since I brought in a boa with mites. I was able to get rid of them easily since I only had 2 other snakes at the time so daily soaks and cleaning the tubs was easy enough with the aid of some reptile relief. Now that I have 14 snakes it was not so easy so I purchased some PAM and did a quick cleaning and all adult mites visible on my snakes were dead within 2 hours. The good thing about this stuff is it works for 30 days so anything new that pops up in 30 days is done.
    lots of snakes

    Re: Clear "mite"

I used PAM last night on my BP's new substrate (he came with mites) and on his new piece of drift wood, and then I let it set out (in a baking dish out front) for an hour just to air out before I dumped the tank and cleaned it... then I put the pretreated substrate in and set the light back up etc... and like an hour later I finally put the snake in. He rubbed all over his new branch and all through his substrate and then he doubled back on his back (I presume to rub the traces of PAM onto his back?) and rubbed all along himself before retreating to his hide. (I didn't use PAM on the hide or the water or the moss I put on the branch thing for fear of over doing it or something) I gathered that there wasn't too much of a fumes issue or he would have stayed out of the hide (or died I suppose) Nag is such good people, I hope he's feeling better today than yesterday... although he never really acted uncomfortable, he just had big fat blood suckers all over him! I'm hoping I did this right and he'll never have to be nibbled on by another critter ever again!
