    Smile How much to feed

I have a 23 inch long ball python that is about 6 months old and she eats one small mouse every five days, do I need to go up to medium or large mouse to feed her now are is it still to soon to feed her that size of a mouse?
Can anyone tell me please what to do.

    Thank You

well the rule is the prey item should be no bigger than the thickest part of the snakes girth. and if your i would also say once a week, dont want your snake to get fat.

Hard to tell you what YOU should feed your BP not being able to see him in person

I feed a prey slightly smaller then the girth size (widest part of the BP's body) once a week.

    Hope this help.

    Re: How much to feed

There can be quite a size range in 6 month old ball pythons and there can be quite a size range in what one pet store calls a small mouse and what another one will sell you as a small. Basically just go with what you've been advised about comparing the rodents girth to the snake's girth. On rodents go with the butt/hip area compared to your snake's empty girth and go slightly smaller. If your snake seems quite satisfied with her weekly mouse and isn't hunting within a day or two and she's shedding, growing, pooping and peeing then she's likely just fine. If you feel she needs a bit more prey volume than go up slightly in size but as with anything with these snakes, just don't rush it or make huge changes in anything too fast.
