Styrofoam Egg boxes
Adam and others,
Where are you getting those styrofoam egg boxes. I was just going to use sterlite shoe boxes but I like the styrofoam as it will help insulate the eggs and help decrease the temp fluctuations in the vermiculite.
Also, where are you getting the glass, Lowes or HD will cut glass.. any ideas
last, are you putting weather stripping around the edges of the box and resting the glass on that to help insulate it more?
any pics would be great if you dont mind

Re: Styrofoam Egg boxes
Sorry, used the search option and found what I was loking for.
"those boxes are from www.polar-tech.com the model # 227."
here is the actual link to the order page
http://www.polar-tech.com/scmed_2_5_bio-Shippers.htm
How are you all sealing the glass on to the styrofoam boxes?
thanks for the help

Re: Styrofoam Egg boxes
I haven't used the sytro boxes in a couple seasons, but Vaughn (kavmon) is still using them (he even has some of my old glass tops) ... I used to have the glass cut at a local glass place (windows, mirrors, custom glass etc) ... I found them in the phone book.
Before trying styro for eggs I tried all different ways of insulating the glass top and making a "seal" ... but when I got down to setting up eggs in them, I just laid the glass on top of the stryo ... 1/4 glass is pretty heavy and makes a nice seal.
These days, I'd probably slap a piece of press and seal between the styro and the glass ... I'm in love with the stuff for keeping the moisture inside egg boxes!!!
Hope this helps.

If I had room in the walk-in to still be using styro, I probably would be ... they were great ... unfortunately, I'm pushing maximum capacity for my incubator this year and I had to save space ... also, with a walk-in, the styro isn't as important because the temps stay very stable, even when I go in and out.
These days I'm using 18 qt rubbermaid "snap tops" (green tops) ... I LOVE them ... and the press and seal makes them PERFECT!!!

Well, I may have to give them a try then. I called the company and they said I had to order a min of 8 of them ( 50 bucks min) and charge me freight for them...waiting to see the cost of shipping. I may just do as you are if it is to much
thank you again for the great ideas

Re: Styrofoam Egg boxes
question. In the above photo do you have the styrofoam box in another container? If not how do you adjust your temps? Did I miss something? Thanks

They keep them in an incubator, controled by a T-stat.
