    Thermostat probe location?

Hey everyone, I picked up a thermostat last night. I am wondering the best location for the probe. Is it in the hide or near the hide?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Re: Thermostat probe location?

since mine spend alot of time in one of their hides (they have two hides apiece) i keep my probes inside the hides. that way i can guage the temp right where they will be alot of the time. only an opinion tho, others may do it differently.

Yeah my probe is in the hide too, my BP rarely ventures out of his hides (unless its to move to the other hide!) so I monitor temps in there. I tape the probe to the bottom of the tub, under the newspaper so he doesnt get stuck to the tape or move the probe about.

    Thermostat or Thermometer?

If thermostat the best place is directly on the heat soure to prevent the temps from shooting up if you BP move the probe, or tip is water dish, or urinate near the probe.

If thermometer the probe should be above the substrate on the warm side.

    Re: Thermostat probe location?

I got a thermostat yesturday as well and its directely on the UTH and the thermometer is directely above the bedding on the warm side and on the cool sides its near the lid. The sensor for the humidity is in the middle of the cage. With this set-up I descovered my bedding is WAY too think and blocking ALOT of heat from my UTH and will have to move alot of it out of the way so his hide on the warm side gets the heat from it. Also descovered that CHE are the devil, even if you use a blue bulb, it still eats the hell out of your humidity.

we tape ours directly on the heat mat with a thermometer probe next to it to be sure of the mat temp and allow a couple of degrees F for transferance on the rack and keep it exact in the vivs

    Re: Thermostat probe location?

I dont know where to put mine either, All my tubs cover the heat tape, so i cant really put it right on the heat tape, and I dont wanna put it inside the tub.
Right now i got it taped to the heat tape on a level without a snake, but that area will soon be filled.
