Today Has Been a Bad Day
Spring Break has started on a bad note... =(
Today is feeding day my little girls knows it. When I lift the screen she pops out and is ready to go. A small portion of her undertank heater is exposed and she struck at it! Not once but twice... Needless to say, aspen was all up in her mouth and she didn't like it one bit.
I managed to get a very small portion out but she definatly injested some. The feeding went ok. She was a little hesitant at first but she managed to choke down the mouse.
I heard that a small amount of aspen injested is ok but I'm still a little concerned. Should I be?

Small amount is fine. She will break it down.

You have the UTH in the tank?
Don't worry about some aspen. In the wild they ingest plenty stuff and they digest lots of fur and bone so a little won't do any harm I don't think.

It's under the tank. She likes to burrow and some of the UTH was visible. I guess she just saw the heat and assumed.

If something is in fact wrong, are there any symptoms I should look out for?

Just cause there is SEE THROUGH glass there, dosnt mean she cant try to strike at the heater. which is why she got a mouth full of bedding.

Going by his description he LIFTED the lid and she struck. So its kinda weird that she would strike downwards, unless his temps are very high

hmm, the picture I got was he lifted the lid to feed her and thats when he saw the heater exposed cause the bedding was pushed out of the way, then he saw that she had aspen in her mouth....either way, thats one confused/pissed off snake, lol.

I started thinking about this again and i bet she was striking at his shadow. Sometimes a snake sees a reflection while in the tanks and inturn strike thinking its food
