    Humidity Problems....

If you mist, and humidity goes to 40%, then a few min later completely drops off and disappears, that mean your not soaking the bedding enough, or should I put some of that moss stuff in there to raise the humidity? need to work on heat too, cool side and warm side are really close to each other, but I still have a UTH that i need to install and I'm gonna try a higher wattage bulb. The humidity is what has me baffled.

What is your setup? I'm assuming a glass viv...

If so, do you have a screen top? If so, Have you cover at least 2/3 of the top with aluminum foil or plexiglas?

What substrate do you use? Cypress mulch is best for humidity.

You can use moist terrarium moss to raise it also.

as for the bedding, its a type of mulch I got from the pet store that said it contains no oils or any of the chemicals that are harmful to the pet. Heres a previous post I made but didnt get any responses on:

You might have a little more luck if you moved your water bowl away from that lamp.

Not necessarily...CHEs are notorious for drying out the air. I get better humidity in my glass viv with the water bowl away from the CHE. Just play "musical chairs" with the bowl in relation to the lamp, give it some time to settle, and record any changes.

    Re: Humidity Problems....

W00t! I'm making progress!! I took the water bowl and put it on the cool side, no change, then I started thinking, my sensor for the humidity is right near the opening in the cage lid, of course its gonna be dry there. So I misted the tank and moved the sensor to the middle of the cage, I'm sitting at a nice comfy 44-47% humidity. I also put the UTH on the cage under the hide that is under the heat lamp, soab went on crooked, lol. So I moved the temp sensor for the warm side into the bedding so I can see what the temp of what hes actually laying on is. the gauge was showing 80 degrees (yes that is the warm side), since I have added the UTH the temp shot up to 99 degrees..and looks like it is gonna keep climbing. So now i need to grab a thermostat, this tank is getting to be expensive.....but at least I got the humidity issue worked out. Since I have added the UTH hes been poking his head out of his hide. He is looking directely across the tank to the other hide that is straight across from his location and is identical to what hes in now. So dunno if he is just getting active cause its night and he has belly heat now, or because its getting really hot and hes all like, "wtf?" and is looking to relocate to where its cooler...

EDIT: freakin ground temp is now 100.5 degrees....*sigh* guess i gotta unplug the damn thing..

    Re: Humidity Problems....

You can make a simple rheostat for $5 by wiring a dimmer to control an outlet, then plugging your UTH into it. That way you can control the output of the UTH and slide the dial to exactly what temp you want. Then mark the dimmer plate with a Sharpie in regards to dimmer position and temps. If you have any questions or need pics...PM me.

    Re: Humidity Problems....

Thanks for the info, I spoke to another board member last night and she also suggested a dimmer as well. So I'll be grabbing on of those on the way home from work today so I can adjust the UTH to get the bedding temps to a nice 95 degrees...I still cant get the damn tank to hold any humidity though...

    Re: Humidity Problems....

    95 is a little high... I would aim for a nice 90-93
