why does everyone quote each other so much here?

just an observation. it seems as though nearly every person who posts in a thread quotes the post just before it. i can understand quoting a portion of someone's previous post, but why does every other post need to be quoted in its entirety in order to respond to it?

i'm not complaining, just wondering why.

Well the reason i do it is because i have a bad memory and forget very easy.If i am answering a question i just reread the post i quoted

For the most part...quoting a post helps to clarify what is being said. It shows that the person is specifically responding to "this" statement.

I suppose some people just use the "quote" button to open the reply window and are a bit lazy about editing a really long quote that appears....but it's a pretty minor annoyance, I'd say.

Easy...just highlight the bits that you don't want in the body and hit the delete key.
