    New Set-up

Osiris was due for some new digs, since we got some too. Here's his old cage..

(temps are off due to recent bedding change) Not a bad set up, but the 1/2 log was useless, and the water bowl too big. He was in my office, with very little traffic, but I also didn't see him much.

He used those large black boxes but I felt they were really too big for him. Also, the drying heat light (pictured below) bothered me, but I dealt with it.

When we moved, the only place for him really was on a coffee table next to the front door, and I was concerned about airflow/traffic stressing him out. I also eventually got tired of seeing the boring boxes and got cave hides, with matching water dishes (instead of the big ceramic dog bowl).

Once that got settled, he got moved to a higher buffet in the kitchen. An extra UTH on the cool side instead of the heat lamp, and now he seems to be quite cozy! I AM a little concerned that he's chosen the cool side, and doesn't seem to be on the hot at all, so I may need to play with probe placement.

Thanks for looking! It takes me forever to load pics...hopefully I'll get into a better habit of it :-) ... Somewhere here I have my video of first feeding...

Nice setup and upgrades! I can tell he likes it from his smile in the last picture.

Yeah, I tell ya though, that's a LOT of stuff to pull out before feeding (plants, logs, hide he's not currently in)...

    Nice set up.
Why do you take everything out when you feed?

    Looks really nice!

My bp stays on the cool side almost all the time as well. So long as you know the temps are ok, it's not a big deal. And there's no need to pull all that stuff out before feeding...unless you just really like doing that.

I pull everything out to make it easier on osiris...just too much to get tangled up in, and I get impatient when the rat is hiding in the bushes (I feed live). This way, there's nothing extra in his way when he strikes.

    Re: New Set-up

Yeah, I agree with you on taking stuff out. My tank doesn't have as much as yours does, but I take out the hides (I leave the small logs I have in with Stryker, they don't really get in the way). I feed both live and F/T and when I feed live, the rats hide in the hides...it's frustrating. Plus, my snake is kind of slow..either that or a crazed stalker. When I drop the rat in, he tongue flicks it and follows it closely as it wanders around the cage, almost like his tongue is attached..Then, when he feels ready and the rat is starting to get annoyed, he lashes out and strikes. If I kept all the hides in, Stryker wouldn't be able to do his psycho stalker dance.
