    Humidifiers

I wanted to post these Humidifiers and have the very knowledgable people on this board comment on them. Especially for beginners and us tank users that didn't know tubs were the way to go. I'm curious if these tank humidifiers are do-able and if there is one better then the other?.. thanx!

I used the TropicAire...it was really annoying because it uses an aquarium pump, which was loud and annoying. I don't think it even did much for the tank....it was just something else to maintain and wasn't effective.

You are really better off just getting a warm-air humidifier (check your local pharmacy) and humidifying the whole room.

I'm kind of surprised that everyone says that tanks won't hold humidity. I have a glass aquarium with a screen top and use newspaper as a substrate and I maintain 60% with no problem.

He lives in a completely different climate that you. Its not just a glass tank that factors into it.

Global, the warm-air humidifier would just sit in the room that that tanks are located it. Nothing goes inside the cage, you are just making the room more humid, therefore making the tanks themselves more humid.

And yes, 60% humidity is totally safe for lamps, bulbs, and other electric stuff.

    Re: Humidifiers

I also use a warm air humidifier in the snake's room. I fill it once per day and it's on for probably 8 hours per day. They're pretty inexpensive. Actually, I collect old bicycles as well, so I frequent the thrift stores around here (Goodwill, etc) and I found my current humidifier for $4. keeps the room at a nice 50%, and then I also put a wet towel on top of the screen top. Helps hold the heat in as well. However, I just bought a tub and am probably going to switch it over based on what I've been reading here lately. I still can't grasp that a 7" tall tub is enough room for a full grown snake though after they've been used to the 40g breeder tank.

7" is more than enough height for a ball python, ball pythons evolved to spend most of their time in burrows...your snake will be much more comfortable and secure in the tub.
