bp from home to kindergarten and back
OK so I might be bringing Darth (my son's *and mine* bp) to his kindergarten class sometime this month or early May for this program where the kids learn about different animals. I thought it would be a great opportunity to try and show kids that not all snakes are dangerous and to hopefully teach them a little about snakes (even though I'm no expert).
Any way, I was planning on getting a small sterilite to transport him in. My car has heated seats, would it be ok to sit the tub on the seat to keep him warm on the way to the school? If not, what temporary heating would you suggest? If hand warmers, how/where to affix them to the tub?
Thanks all.

Re: bp from home to kindergarten and back
Be sure to put the snake into a bag (an inside-out pillowcase will work fine) and tie it securely at the top....and lots of padding in the sterelite box with the bagged snake.
I'm sure the warmed seats would be fine. Your biggest concern with this kind of transport is SUDDEN temperature changes...such as bringing the snake out of the warm house to frigid outdoors to a warm car to cold outside to warm school....etc etc. A styrofoam lined cardboard box (or even a little styrofoam beer cooler) might be a better way to carry the snake as it will help keep the temps steady throughout the journey.
I'd just place a handwarmer at the bottom with some padding over the top if it and then the snake on top of that...if its cold enough to need one.

I would get a hand warmer and tape it to the bottom so you can keep it warm while it is in the classroom as well

OK I like the cooler idea. I have some small-ish coolers that should be perfect. So basically just make sure there is plenty of soft padding. Would one hand warmer in the bottom of the cooler covered with a towel or something be good enough?

Probably, but I don't know for sure. Wouldn't hurt to set it up beforehand as if you were going to transport the snake...then toss a thermometer in there and see how warm it gets with one hand warmer. If it gets TOO warm, try covering the warmer with more padding. If it doesn't get warm enough, then add a second.

Personally, I wouldn't rely on the heated seat. I don't know about yours, but ours require a certain amount of pressure to be activated--they don't feel warm to the touch unless you're actually sitting in them. Yours may work differently, though.
What fun, taking the snake to kindergarten! Hope you have a good time!

Yeah I'm going to buy another thermometer. I don't want to risk anything. If/when this happens I'll try to get some pics.
