maybe someone could shed some light on it.
Python anchietae is named after José Alberto de Oliveira Anchieta, the Portuguese naturalist who made the Angolan Python known to Western Europe. It was called a Dwarf Python by him.
There are several species in different genera that carry the "anchietae" title in their species name. Bocage was the one who named it after him.
Apparently, that name, date info after a Species name is useful for something.

Your Welcome.
I always like a good question...at first I thought it meant something in Latin...but when I looked it up on an online Latin translator and found nothing I tired looking it up using the (name, date) info for the species.

Re: Angola Python.
Mendel, great info. almost every book that I have refers to them as African Dwarf Pythons, but I know they are a little bigger than my ball pythons as adults.

It probably isnt the best common name.....but I guess "Dwarf" is a relative term. They are "dwarfs" relative to African Rocks. Does anyone know if the ranges of these two species overlap?

Re: Angola Python.
Stefan Broghammer talks briefly in his book about the ball pythons and python anchietae not overlapping in their respected ranges and being far apart from one another. also the fact that they are close cousins.

Did you produce it? If so, pics of the parents?
