Awesome addition!! Charina have to be one of the most unique groups of north american snakes around. Can't wait to see some pics of yours.

They aren't that difficult to find really if you know where and when to look. Check south facing grassy slopes with water nearby. Don't bother looking once air temp is above 75-80, they like it cool (Gravid females bask every morning in the early spring and can get their body temp up to the low 80s with a very small patch of body exposed to direct sunlight when air temps are in the low 50s). Cool sunny mornings are the best time to look. For road cruising, try canyon roads with water on the south side and a south or south-west facing slope on the north side of the road. Evenings after rain storms with air temps in the mid to low 70s are ideal. If you are planning on collecting one to keep, I would suggest only taking a juvenile. Adults, especially males, can be difficult to get feeding unless you have access to domesticated strains of deer mice (Peromyscus sp.)
