Why cant people be honest?
I plan on selling reptiles in the future and i just dont see how people can be dishonest. i mean i wanted to buy some snakes and i was told this person is crazy and i just finished skiming a huge article on him. i wish i did not have to do that. i also just found out someone i recently did buisness with is has a bad rap and they gave me great service and i was very pleased with them. i guess to me it seems that honesty is what keeps people coming back and trying to scam someone may get you a few bucks now but in the long run it looks like it just ends up screwing them over.

Re: Why cant people be honest?
Just keep in mind opinions are like butt holes everyone has one and most stink.
Someone says a guy in crazy and you have a good transaction with him...so which is it? You might never know but I wouldn't let one influence you.
I personally don't think people (most people that is) are out to scam others, especially in this hobby...but that doesn't mean that people don't drop the ball and forget about customer service...or worse were never taught about it.
I have dealt with a lot of small breeders and I could nit pick a lot of them and say they are bad for one reason or another (but really they aren't that bad)...if you step back and look it is usually due to the fact that they are NOT a retailer, they have no training or skill in customer service or running a business so they make mistakes.
When Petco screws up they should know better when joe blow pythons screws up maybe cut him some slack as he might be trying.
All I am saying is listen to others opinions but don't make up your mind till you talk to the actual person being discussed.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Why cant people be honest?
A differing point of view here - if you read of a bad reputation on the BOI, especially if there are several bad guy threads and they are long, it's someone that I stay away from.
It's been my experience that the main folks that post there, a person who logs a complaint has to provide detailed information about their transaction and answer just as many questions as the person being reported as a bad guy (unless they've already been established as one).
There are unfortunately a lot of bad guys out there, and it's best to always ask around if you aren't personally familiar with the seller. The good thing is, there are a lot of good guys too. Always be an informed buyer!

There are too many people that are out there for that almighty dollar, and they will do whatever it takes to get it. Fortunately there are also people who will help you out and go beyond the call of duty. These are the people you need to seek out. Try not to focus on those that are looking to cheat, as they will usually self destruct before long. Remember to research those you do business with, and try to surround yourself with those willing to go the extra mile for you.

The only problem at this time on Fauna is ALOT of the threads are being posted because they dont like someone or someone just losing thier mind(hint hint).Or someone that WAS a big trusting name is now the top hated member of all time.At one time Fauna BOI was a trusting revenue for info on someone, lately its just a if you are not in the "click" group you are a bad person.

Now remember this that person could be setting you up for a LARGER kill AKA large amount of cash rippoff.I read everything on certain sites and ask around for people who have had deals with this certain person recently.I then make my decision of wether to buy from him/her or RUN for the hills!

Re: Why cant people be honest?
I don't speak very often on topics like this one, but what really gets me going is after I read a few of these reviews on BOI and even the ones here on BPN is:
When someone who has never had a transaction or even talked to a vender has to put their in on something that they don't even know about. I don't want to start any trouble, but there a few folks on this site that feel they need to add to the fire on topics. They really have no clue or business speaking about. They normally start with: 'I heard............' or 'Everyone has told me.......' or 'On the BOI it says.........(with some link to a post that is 3 years old)' I swear this comes out of jealousy
On the honest topic, I am as honest as my knowledge of the topic is, I am known to tell folks ‘I just don’t know’ but some folks read that as being dishonest and trying to hide something, when I am being honest and leaving it in the buyers hands to decide or seek more info.
As for honest venders, I tend to shy away from the larger reptile dealers because of the honest issue. They have so many animals that they buy from so many breeders how do they know about all the animals? Dealers are in it for the $$$$$. I prefer to buy direct from the breeder when possible. I will go back to those that have treated me good.

Re: Why cant people be honest?
This is just my 2 cents so take it for what it's worth.
I go on a lot of boards about many things, one I will point out is a travel board. People leave neg posts about certain hotels or resturants and then some leave good ones, do you go or do you stay away?
I have found in my experience that it's just like was stated about opinions and butts, everyone has one and most do stink.
I have stayed and eaten at many places that where just ripped apart on the forums and had great experiences and I have done the same w/ places that had great reps and had terrible experiences.
Alot of it sometimes depends on peoples feelings about who they are ripping or praising. Sometimes it just a personal vendetta or they are hyping up a friend, who knows.
If you see a rep or thread and just about 99% say they have had bad experiences then I would stay away. In turn if you see a thread where the experiences are mixed then I would check deeper and make a choice from there.
Another point to ponder unless it is a bigger well known breeder etc you really never know when even a " good person " may cross the line and provide poor services.
Alot of the times it is a crap shoot. I have done business with several people who I have seen ripped on here and fauna and had great experiences w/ them, go figure.
