    First Shed

    Hello all.

Well our two new BP's went thru their first shed this past week and a half. Everything seemed text book as I had already read the "sticky" on this forum about how a shed should go. Great place for information.

Anyway, I had a couple of questions for you guys.

    1. One of them still has some left over skin on the top of her head and one eye. Will this come off by itself or do I need to help her out by soaking or using the other method in the "sticky" on this particular forum?

    2. How soon after shed can you start feeding again?

    3. It seemed to me that the patterns on both of them changed a bit after the shed. Markings that we used to identify them seemed different in some cases not there. Is this normal?

I guess that was 3 questions....sorry. Anyway, thanking all those who reply in advance

    Thanks again.

Just curious, how long did it take to finish? Mine is going through the first one now too.

    What was the humidity like?

The whole process took about 10 days from the time we noticed the pink bellies. They pretty much stayed in their hides the whole time.

The humidity was about 60% the whole time.

    1. I would advise to soak her in a small amount of warm water for at least an hour, then try to gently massage the stuck shed off. If it does not come off easily, especially the eye cap, leave it to come off during the next shed.

    2. You should be able to continue feeding on your scheduled feeding day. If you feed on Sundays, feed her tomorrow. If you feed on Fridays, it won't hurt her to wait until next Friday.

    3. I'm going to call it normal.

This has all been my personal advice... others may have other opinions on each question.

Thanks again, As it turns out she was able to get the skin off herself. This morning when I checked her most of it was off and the stuff over her eyes was gone. I guess I was a bit premature.
