Heat Tape Died!
The heat tape in my AP rack just died on me! The rack is only a few months old!
I have thousands of dollars worth of animals without heat in New England winter right now.
What am I going to do!?!?!?!

Oil filled heater in the room. You'll be fine until you can replace it. Is it a single piece of heat tape for the whole rack?

Re: Heat Tape Died!
yep--run to walmart and get yourself an oil filled heater.
is it heat tape that died or the built-in heat cable that the ap cages come with unless you order them routed for flexwatt? if it is flexwatt you can just order up some to replace yours from reptilebasics.com and you'll have it in a few days. if it's the heat cable--you may have to contact animal plastics for that as i'm not sure how exactly it is built into the rack.

Re: Heat Tape Died!
I just want to say Mark at AP is AWESOME.
I was able to borrow a space heater from the inlaws plus I had empty cages and some heat lamps which are now being utilized.
The heat tape is 2 rows of 11 inch running down the back. It was never glued into place, just taped on. I took the back off and checked the connections. The clips were attached but I took them off, reattached them, and taped them down.
I checked the thermostat and probe. Both are working fine. I also checked the cords on everythin and the outlet. They are OK.
It appears to now be heating up a little (the tape is warm to the touch) since I adjusted the clips and secured them.
I will check the temps with a temp gun in a few hours before I leave for work and see where they are. Right now the tape is plugged straight into the outlet with no thermostat.
The animals are fine and I will call Mark in the morning when I get in to work. Right now I need to unwind and get at least a few hours sleep since I have to be at work in a couple of hours.
Thanks again to all, especially Mark. He has incredible customer service
