    Eggs-Warm or Cool Side

Hey! I should be starting to get eggs in a couple weeks (wahoo!), so I was wondering out of couriosity, which side do the females usally lay them on, or do they just randomly pick a side? I'm guessing they'd want to lay them on the warm side, but I'm not sure. Thanks guys!

    Re: Eggs-Warm or Cool Side

I'm new to breeding but my girl laid a few weeks ago and it was on the warm side. It was all about the heat for her! LOL! Good luck and let us know when she lays.

    Re: Eggs-Warm or Cool Side

I find that typically a female will lay on the cool side while she is developing follicles. During ovulation, I have seen my females all over the tank, but after ovulation the females will lay on the heat, often not moving until the eggs are laid. All of my females have actually laid their eggs on the hot side. This is probably due to the fact that they think they are going to incubate the eggs, and want them on the warm side to maintain the required levels of heat. I don't think that if they laid them on the cool that they would have the ability to move the clutch. So, they just lay on the hot side. Hope that helps.

    Re: Eggs-Warm or Cool Side

Ok, thanks guys!! That's what I thought. And that makes perfect sense about laying them on the warm side since they think that they will be incubating them themself (even though that won't). Anyway, Thanks so much guys!
