Should I be worried?

We have a 14yr old Ball Python (female) who appears to be healthy. She has been 'hibernating' for the past month or so, which is not unusual for her in the winter months. However, a few days ago, my daughter was holding her (she had started coming out again) and she started 'urinating' and then pooped. I have read that Ball Pythons don't urinate liquid, and we have never seen her do this before. Should I be concerned about this ? Thank you for any advice.

Mine pees like a.... well...she pees a lot. Yes, they do have liquid waste as well as solid poos and urates.


Ball pythons aren't "hibernating" animals though. You might want to review your temps and keep them the same year round.

Thank you so much for responding - the temp in her cage is stable year round, and she has gone into 'hibernation' several times since we have had her ( about 7yrs ). The people who gave her to us told us that she did that with them too. I guess I won't worry as long as the rest of the year she is healthy and active. She is a really cool snake, great personality, loves the attention from the kids etc. Again, thanks for your help

I agree that so long as the temps stay stable in the correct range...and she's healthy and seems as well adjusted as we can ever tell....everything sounds great.


BTW....we're total photo-addicts around here...almost as badly addicted as we are to the herps themselves! Would love to see pics of yours!

I don't understand how you've had a snake for 7 years and never realized they pee?? Isn't the substrate ever wet?!?

Oh yes they pee. My baby PB bees like a well ....And usually on me!!! I think she believes I am her bathroom!!!!

Hahahah dang im am glad im not the only one... My BP has done it a few times. Im to the point that if i see a big buldge near her back end i wont take her out for very long cuz i dont want to have the worst smell ever pee'ed all over me.

yep, iv been pee'd on a few times.my corn snake shat on me once.
