I know that temperature affects the gender of crocs, but I do not think that it is the same for ball pythons, especially because there isn't much fluctuation in the 89 degree incubation temperature.

Someone was blowing smoke to try to sell thier incubator.

Changing the incubation temp does not affect sex in ball pythons.

I bet the person trying to sell the incubator tried to "chose" the sexs and ended up with dead or majorly messed up snakes. If you like invite him to join us here and we can fill him in on the truth .

Re: manipulate the sexes of hatchlings?

I can't recall ever hearing of any snakes with eggs that have temperature sex dependancy.

Outside of the relm of snakes, there are lots of geckos, crocodilians, and turtles that have temperature sex dependant eggs...leopard geckos are one of the most common...so unless the incubator seller was advertising specifically for incubating snake eggs or makeing a general comment that it works for ALL reptiles, then I see nothing wrong.

I've also read that temperature affects leopard geckos. So they aren't completely lying to you but as also mentioned it doesn't work for balls so more like a white lie.

I believe snakes are genetic gender determined. The female has the zw and the male zz for sex chromosomes if I remember right so the female's contribution determines the gender of each baby (opposite of us).

I am sure that if it were possible, people would already be doing it and highly publicizing it! Imagine; a whole clutch of female pieds or albinos..
