Refridgerator Soup
Have you ever been so sick ( I feel terrible), have your better half out of town and know you need to eat something, but don't want what you originally planned? What pops into your head? Well being faced with that situation this evening, I started looking in the fridge. Upon finding some bacon and polish sausage, a plan started forming in my head. Looking in the vegi drawer I discovered some carrots and the pantry provided some potatoes, garlic. onions and chicken stock. Now it is simmering on the stove, my appetite has returned and I have created a refridgerator soup!
What have you created on the spur of the moment?

My personal favorite is SPAM-Manwhich.
You pour manwhich over SPAM cubes and let them simmer for a few minutes... you wind up with something resembling Fancy Feast cat food.

I was thinking about calling it Stone Soup, but there were no villagers to con! The wife and I share cooking duties. I'm just not that good at baking.

Hope you feel better Craig!

I was training near Camp Red Devil (the flats of Colorado) and we had run out of c-rations (this really dates me!). My team had not eaten for 18 hours (so we were hungry, but not starving). A helicopter was coming our direction, so we popped a yellow smoke grenade and waited for it to land. I went over and asked if they could send us out some food. The pilot said that his mission orders would not let him return, but he did have some food in the back. His gift to us:
a 5 pound tin of Spam, three loaves of wonder bread and about 3 gallons of cold coffee. We filled up our canteens with the coffee and took the bread and spam.
Little did we know that we would not get any food for two days. When I got back to base I personally thanked the pilot for stopping. We would have been in really big trouble without that SPAM!
So there will always be a soft spot in my heart for SPAM.

See that is definitely a "eat SPAM or die" situation.

Re: Refridgerator Soup
lol
I like making a concoction with a rice base. I cook up some rice and then add any cheeses, meats, veggies and other things from the fridge that I can find. Heat it up in some chicken broth, dash on some salt and pepper and a few other spices from the spice cabinet.. and Mmmmm!
Works well also if you have some leftover meat (ribs, fish, etc) from an earlier restaurant trip that you want to "stretch" into another meal..
