vision rack's.....
hello
im from the uk , and im thinking for getting some racks from vision rack's because in the uk i cant really find any anyway i have afew questions for the poeple that have these..
1) are they good to by from?
2) i have noticed they are all stackd one on top of the other , is it hard to controll the temps in each box? my room temp i can get to around 80 so the cold side would be ok , im just worried about the hot side because i want the temps to all be the same
3) how many stat's would i need?
4) what box would the stat/thermomiter be placed in a 11tub high rack? and can you still use the box that your measurin temps with?
sorry about all the question's..i just want to get it all right..ima worry freak when it comes to housing them lol
thanks

Re: vision rack's.....
Hey Ollie,
I have two of my own here, just set up... so I'll try to answer your questions:
1) are they good to by from?
Is that the Queen's English? I'm going to guess you're asking who is good to buy from... and I'll say Bruce Edelman in Florida and the good people at visionproducts.us are great to deal with.
2) i have noticed they are all stackd one on top of the other , is it hard to controll the temps in each box?
Being spread out over a great height (over 6'), you will get temperature differentials from warmer at the top to lower at the bottom... but you can custom wire the heat cable on each shelf to help account for that.
3) how many stat's would i need?
One DBS-1000 Helix will be able to handle 5 lengths of 100W heat cable, and you only need 4. However the basic stat has 3X 2-prong holes to plug into... like Adam said, spring for the grounded unit to make expansion easier.
4) what box would the stat/thermomiter be placed in a 11tub high rack? and can you still use the box that your measurin temps with?
It's up to you where you place the probe... the thermostat can be attached to a wall or what have you. Keep in mind the temperature gradient in the room, key is setting up the whole thing and letting the temperatures stabilize so you know what you're dealing with. Right now I'm running the probe under the box next to the cable at 91 degrees. In the tubs themselves I have a range from 86 to 90 degrees. You'd have to leave the box empty if you put the probe directly in there. Remember you only have 3/40" clearance for the tub in the shelf... the cable would be nipped if not left open. You could burn a whole through the side of the tub if you wanted, but still not a good idea to have the probe where it can get wet.

Re: vision rack's.....
thank you for taking the time to reply back
so because it will be warmer at the top i would have to put more heat cable at the bottem than at the top is that correct? would i get to do that myself? or does vision racks do that?
DBS-1000 Helix < we dont have that kinda thermomstat in the uk , do you get one with a rack from vision rack's?
final question..overall how hard would it be to keep all the tubs at 83 cold - 90-95 hot?
thanks

Re: vision rack's.....
hi,
I know www.crystalpalacereptiles.co.uk (maybe .com) did sell vision cages, although there are none on the site at the mo. Might be worth givin them a bell though as I know they use them in their store. As far as thermostats go, I use the Pulse Proportional Habistat model. Its fairly inexpensive on ebay (about £30) and keeps temps very stable, each one can also handle up to 600w which is easily enough to heat a rack. It would be nice to own a herpstat or similar but we'r very limited here in the uk, as u probably know! I use to thermostats to heat my tubs, one controlling the hot side at 93F and the other the cool at 83F, and my snakes are very healthy. U may not need to heat both sides, but my snakes are kept in my bedroom which has no carpet and gets really cold!
Good luck with everything. May I suggest also if ur looking for some real QUALITY animals, u HAVE to check out Crystal Palace Reptiles in London.. They deal with NERD in the states and have some amazin morphs!
Hope this helped.
