Hey Ollie,
I have two of my own here, just set up... so I'll try to answer your questions:
1) are they good to by from?
Is that the Queen's English? I'm going to guess you're asking who is good to buy from... and I'll say Bruce Edelman in Florida and the good people at visionproducts.us are great to deal with.
2) i have noticed they are all stackd one on top of the other , is it hard to controll the temps in each box?
Being spread out over a great height (over 6'), you will get temperature differentials from warmer at the top to lower at the bottom... but you can custom wire the heat cable on each shelf to help account for that.
3) how many stat's would i need?
One DBS-1000 Helix will be able to handle 5 lengths of 100W heat cable, and you only need 4. However the basic stat has 3X 2-prong holes to plug into... like Adam said, spring for the grounded unit to make expansion easier.
4) what box would the stat/thermomiter be placed in a 11tub high rack? and can you still use the box that your measurin temps with?
It's up to you where you place the probe... the thermostat can be attached to a wall or what have you. Keep in mind the temperature gradient in the room, key is setting up the whole thing and letting the temperatures stabilize so you know what you're dealing with. Right now I'm running the probe under the box next to the cable at 91 degrees. In the tubs themselves I have a range from 86 to 90 degrees. You'd have to leave the box empty if you put the probe directly in there. Remember you only have 3/40" clearance for the tub in the shelf... the cable would be nipped if not left open. You could burn a whole through the side of the tub if you wanted, but still not a good idea to have the probe where it can get wet.
