Just let him soak in warm water for 30 minutes in some tupperware. I'd make sure it goes no higher then the highest part of his body. That should loosen up most of the skin. Unfortunately PetCo just plain sucks. Also, since you got the BP from PetCo I'd suggest get a vet check-up. BP's from PetCo are WC and you wanna make sure you got a healthy slither kid there

    Re: I hate Petco

Just a "wee" bit of clarification, balls from Petco are most likely CH aka farmed babies from Africa, but not necessarily wild caught - but the advice to get it vet checked is sound.

As to a bad shed - it's not unusual for first sheds with you to be bad sheds as they acclimate to a new home. However, not having a good digital hygrometer certainly didn't give you the tools to make sure the humidity was at a proper level.

You can pick up a digital thermometer/hygrometer that many of us use, called AcuRite for about $12 from Walmart or Lowes.

    Re: I hate Petco

i know that it seems everyone on here hates PETCO, but I don't necessarily think the company sucks.....it's just SOME of the people that have been hired to work in the stores suck......that being said, it has been my experience that the larger percentage of the people that work there are not very well versed on reptiles. But, on the other hand, I worked at a PETCO for six years and consider myself pretty experienced with reptiles, mostly snakes....AND much to the aggravation of my manager (heheh) I would often "tip" a customer on the equipment they could get elsewhere for a lot cheaper, and of a better quality. And I must say, I saw a select few gorgeous baby ball pythons come through that store. I'm not siding with anybody, just puttin in my .

most of the babies are farmed, like chickens and cows here. alot of people call them farmed or ch (captive hatched). usually wc refers to wild caught as in taken from the bush (bush babies).

    Re: I hate Petco

Don't know how true it is, but I also heard that gravid females are captured, eggs laid, then released, so that eggs are hatched in captivity and then all the hatchlings are then sent to "import warehouses" to be redistributed to vendors who buy bulk quantities of them.

    Re: I hate Petco

i'm sure that happens alot too. it is a business for them, i would think they use all kinds of ways to get babies to export during the season.
