    Handling routines/fun stuff to do

Just curious what type of stuff you guys do with your BPs when you have them out of their enclosures....

do you carry them around? sit quietly? what works for you and your pets?

Re: Handling routines/fun stuff to do

I love it best when he decides to hang out on my arms while I read or work on the computer, but it's also totally cool to watch him explore. I love trying to imagine what he's thinking and seeing, especially when he lifts his head to look over something. Of course, it now inevitably reminds me of the ninja picture someone posted on here a while back, lol.

Sometimes watching him explore, I think of what it would be like if I didn't already know there was a snake in the room and I saw part of him dangling or hanging out behind something... I think it would creep me out!

I'm looking forward to the day that he's well enough acclimated to start introducing him to people who come over and let him get used to being handled by the children (under close supervision, of course).

So... what kinds of "fun" things do you do with your snake?

who me? I am just getting started so nothing really yet

yesterday I had him out for weighing, measuring, and pics
today I had him out to explore my lap a little bit
no more handling till next week so I can let him alone so he'll be ready to feed Saturday and then digest a few days.

wondering what people normally do with theirs....since I'm such a noob I have no idea

I generally just sit quietly with them. When the weather is warmer, some of the neighborhood kids do ask to see them, and I'll choose a pretty mellow one for them to hold and ask questions about for brief handling sessions (15 minutes max).

With mine it just depends on who I have out. My first, Casey, loves to be out anywhere and everywhere and to interact with anyone he can. He is the one I have taken to my daughters school or had out for a couple hours at a time chilling with me while I am online. A couple of my girls I have to just sit quietly or they get agitated and on a couple occasions have been known to strike. From my experience, my males like to hang out and be social more than my females.

Re: Handling routines/fun stuff to do

Mike and I mostly bring some snakes out when the house is quiet in the evening. Things that are "fun" to do with snakes....

    1) Play the get your tongue out of my ear/nose/eyeball game with Rionnach (05 female BP)...she's always been fascinated with any place she can stick her snout into...and can't seem to get the concept that she can't fit in my ear nor do I store spare rats in there LOL)

    2) Watch Kyna (03 female BP) nose about in our son's toys. She's always gone straight for Mikey's toy train and trucks and such like. No idea why but she seems quite interested in his stuff.

    3) Play the rather stressful game of "look ma I'm hiding in the couch!" with some sneaky snake that was pretending to be napping on my lap and as soon as I looked away.....made a mad dash for the depths of the couch (who says BP's can't book it if they want to LOL).

    4) Do the hand over hand over hand thing with Emi (05 Nelson's Milksnake)...kind of like a slinky thing lol....she's small, busy and quick so handling her isn't very relaxing but it's always a joy to see this amazing albino snake in action.

    5) Just relaxing with one of the big BP's or the BCI and be still amazed at their sheer beauty and grace in movement...those rippling muscles and their gentle power still give me such a sense of awe. It's a gift to handle them and know that they are allowing it for us humans.

Re: Handling routines/fun stuff to do

I usually handle mine during routine cage maintenance about two days prior to feed and I only handle her about once a week.

She sometimes lay calm on my palm and sometimes wrap around my arm. I also like to sit on the floor and just let her explore the room and sometimes leave her alone to explore while I change the newspaper and water. It`s funny how she freezes when approached, it`s like she thinks she`s invisible when she does that.
