temp "gun"
Now, keep in mind I DO now have therm/hygrometer combos in both tanks....
a few months ago, it was suggested to me to get this temp gun (only way I think think of to call it). its black, and you point it at a surface and it will give an instant temp reading.
anyone else use one of these? good/bad/indifferent
is it as accurate as a therm in the tank?

I love mine fast and accurate. If anything it is more accurate than the probes in my opinion, the probes for thermometers from like walmart or homedepot are accurate, most temp guns use a lazer (correct me anyone if i am wrong) and the probes use an electric signal, But again i love mine, use it for my snakes, turtles, lizard, and even for passing boring moments in every day life, lol.

The laser is not what picks up the temp, it merely shows where there rays are that pick it up. I forgot where I read that

When you look at how economical temp guns have become, I'm surprised there's not one in every serious herp enthusiast's arsenal of tools.
Get one - you won't regret it.

Re: temp "gun"
For the $25 bucks that it cost I picked one up and found that it was pretty accurate. You need to be an inch away from whatever your reading and keep in mind that it only reads surface temperatures. My snakes like to redecorate their tubs so my accurite probes get moved around and if I ever want to double check a temp the temp gun is quick an easy. Nothing beats the probe on a good thermostat and a properly set up enclosure though.

Re: temp "gun"
the ones for 25 bucks are good deal! the ones for 70-and up are no more accurate than accurites, taylor, etc. almost all laser therms have a 2-3 deg. the same as accurites!
for 25 bucks though you can't beat the novelty and the quick ease of use for multiple readings., imo.

Re: temp "gun"
I have a PE-mini from Pro Exotics and I love it. I'm able to quickly and accuratly check the temps above and below the substrat, as well as on surfaces when there is out of the cage play time.

I love my temp gun from Pro Exotics, the mini is great and at a very reasonable price. Can't go wrong with one from there.
