Anyone have their Dogs microchipped?
We are getting a puppy within the next two weeks. I have had horrible luck with Dogs growing up, we lost at least 3 dogs as I grew up and I was always so heartbroken. I had not control over it, I always had a feeling my dad took them and got rid of them as he HATES animals.
So with getting a new puppy, I want to have it microchipped. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me ball park how much it is going to cost? I am going to set up a vet appointment with my vet anyway for a first check up. The breeder offers a 12 month health guarantee if the pup has a check up within the first 48 hours of bringing him or her home.
Thanks
Kristy

I know, it doesn't cover small illnesses but major genetic problems if any occur. I guess they will cover vet costs or refund money.

Re: Anyone have their Dogs microchipped?
i have both of my dogs chipped and i cost me 100 each the only proplem with the chipping is i found out later there are a few different chips out there and the readers that they have for the chips only work if you have the right chip. i'll say your vet uses the hhh chip and your anti cruilty uses the ccc chip. not a big deal but if your doges gets lost and the anti cruilty pick it up they will not even know your dog is chiped as there reader won't see it

Re: Anyone have their Dogs microchipped?
We have a low cost spay/nueter clinic (non-profit) locally and they also have a few times a month that they offer yearly shots and check-ups at a reduced cost. It's where Diamond was spayed when she was a pup and we took advantage of the shot clinic one year. They offered the micro-chip that time, and I think my total bill when I left was $65, including the chip. They just use a large needle to insert it under the skin. All the dogs at Canine Assistants (trains service dogs for physically disabled) where I volunteer all have micro-chips as well.

We have all our dogs chipped. We were able to go thru the Vet on Quantico since I'm in the military. I think it was around $25 each.

It cost me 50$s for the chip and 14$ to activate it. Hope it helps!! Congrats on the new dogs.

Re: Anyone have their Dogs microchipped?
Thanks everyone, it seems it may be a lot less expensive than I anticipated. Definately something I will be doing once we get our dog. My husband also wants to get pet insurance on the dog which I don't mind doing. I am going to read through and find out exactly what It will cover. I don't want to pay for it if it doesn't cover much.

My dog is chipped, but my wife got it done, so I don't know the cost.

My friend does help with a dog rescue group, and they microchip the dogs that they rehome.
