    First Feed

    I am so excited!
I put a frozen mouse on top of my new BP's tub to thaw
and my boy is going ballistic! he spent about an hour trying to get at it through the tub lid and now he's sitting in his hide with his front end in a strike pose waiting to be fed

guess I'll speed up the thaw with some hot water and give him his meal in an hour or two.

WISH ME LUCK! First feed, first snake EVAH~!

the best part is my husband is all excited too...I think he is being won over

hey, how am I to be sure that the mouse is fully thawed?

it's not cold or hard, but I would say not floppy or squishy...just kind of feels like a dead thing

should it be squishy or does this sound about right?

    Yay for first feeds!

To make sure the mouse is thawed, squeeze its skull in between your fingers... if it's thawed, it'll feel slightly.... um.... bouncy.

    Good luck!

Kinda gross....but mash up on the stomach like you're trying to feel up under the ribs...if you feel any coolness, you need to keep warming. If it feels warm all the way through, it should be fine.

That was one of the things I hated about feeding f/t...was always being paranoid that it wasn't fully thawed.

YAY! one down, a lifetime of rodents to go!

Man, Kara said this guy was a great feeder...and she wasn't kidding!
Literally struck at the wet dangly mouse within 3 seconds
took about 3 minutes before locating the head and down it went.
Then he looked for more just to make sure he didn't miss a dessert mouse with hot fudge sauce

here is the sequence of events:

    *sniff* *sniff*

    AROO? FOR ME?

Congrats on your boy's first meal and his good appetite! Mine will (hopefully) be having his first here in a few days!
