I'm Worried...
When I first got my BP in Oct. she was as active as can be. I'd see her roaming and generally enjoying herself to the fullest. Lately things have been different. She spends most of her time in her hide and comes out seldomly to bask. I have to catch her at the right moment to handle her. Is this curious behavior normal? Is something wrong with her?

Usually when you get a BP they explore their new home. Then they settle in where they feel most comfortable. My BP is in his hide all the time. I rarely see him as well as my other snakes once they had settled in.

Do you think the fact that I recently transported her to a new location has had an effect?

Re: I'm Worried...
sounds like normal bp behavior to me, as far as traveling . I drove from maine to florida with my snakes and when we got to florida i gave them a few days to settle in , i fed them , and it was like the trip never happened.

Re: I'm Worried...
I used to get worried about that all the time too...its just being paranoid. Thats just the kinda snakes they are. A lot of times it is rare to catch them out of their hide, so i'd suggest getting one you can get them out of easily. Just make sure you remove them slowly and gently as to not cause any unnecessary stress.

Re: I'm Worried...
We've got 13 BPs and if I walk into the snake room right now I'd put money on it I won't find many of them out in the open. They are shy snakes that love their hides and especially when younger and smaller, I just never see them all that much unless they are peeking out of the opening of their hides. The bigger, older females tend to just curl up wherever they feel like it and don't seem to use their hides nearly as much.

Hey thanks... I just want the happiest snake possible! She's my first and I would like to treat her right.

Sounds like you are on the right track! Lucky snake to have a caring, concerned owner.
