Pics of My Central American Boa

This is my first boa althoguh I've had other snakes, colubrids and a ball python. S/He's about 21" at the moment and I thought looked absolutely awesome with the way it's saddles are.








It did try and bite me twice yesterday when I was fixing some stuff in its tank and had to take it out for a sec.. I was holding it and it struck at one hand and then it struck at my thumb on the hand I was holding it with. I don't see how it missed, but oh well. I'll let it settle one more day before I start taming it down.

Also, I'm not completely sure what size rat/mouse to feed it. I'm thinking something thats about 2 inches, maybe a hopper or a rat fuzzy. I know the 1.5 rule and all, just curious as to what you guys use for your snakes when they're >2ft

There is no magic formula for feeding size. A snake can be 2 feet long and very slender or it can be rather girthy. Feed a prey that is about the same girth as the snake.

It looks like it could be doing rat pups or weanlings. I think I'm about to take a gander into hypo Nics very soon. Central Americans rock! Very nice pick-up.

Thanks, guys. I figured that you guys would be iffy on the food thing, just wanted a little input since I haven't really looked into rat sizes.

Nics are beautiful, the red and the accents just kick ass. Hypos just take it to a completely new degree...

pretty snake! Now what is the difference between this one and a BCI/BCC etc...? Or are they all the same? Sorry im still new to this.

B.c.c. is Boa Constrictor Constrictor or the "true" redtail. B.c.i. is Boa Constrictor Imperator. They are both in the same family along with any "redtail boas" throughout Central and South America. B.c.c. are usually from further south like Guyana, Peru, or Suriname. B.c.c. are known to get bigger than the further north boas, the B.c.i.
