So, Ms. Foxy, who some of you commented by her size may be an older rat did indeed have babies. She is the proud, first time mom (at least for me, who knows her history - she came from Petsmart around November) of 17 babies. One was deceased when I got home to the squeeks of newborns. There's one of the remaining sixteen who has very shallow breathing and not as pink as the others that may not make it.

I figured if she was indeed older and did have babies, I'd get a small litter which would somewhat confirm that she was older. The remaining fifteen are big fat babies, nice pink, good milkbands!

Scarlett is currently nursing her second litter of 15 babies (1 week old) and Mrs. Snuggles and Holly are having dates with Caesar right now. The un-named blue hooded is residing with Noel and being as gentle with her as Holly was. I'm thinking I may name her Jasmine, but her name just hasn't "come" to me yet.

Got to love those beige hooded momma's! She reminds me so much of my favorite female rat, HoneyChild, who consistently produced 15 per litter until her recent retirement.





Maybe she's just a physically big girl. One of our females (Jet) is really big but then her momma (Alita) is so big she was mistaken for a male at the pet store (big or not a quick peek at her backside should have clued them in LOL). Seems some of them are just overly large without being fat, just very big frames on them.

Congrats on that big healthy litter! You're doing something right there hon.

Jo, she really DOES look like HC - even down to the wide stripe! Karl's very excited, because he said he wanted to keep two of her babies, from the day she first got here. He's been dying for her to have her first litter!

All dark eyes, so we'll see what sort of colors we might get in this litter - so far I've either had black berkies or black hoodeds - we'll see if she threw any other colors!

Yep they both have that wide stripe and a big beige cape. I've actually gotten some show quality hoodeds from HoneyChild and Casanova over the years but never really bothered with that much as there doesn't seem a lot of interest locally in showing rodents LOL. I'll try to get some pictures of them in a few days - I just did a head count today and we now have 14, not sure where the 15th went, but likely she culled it. She's a nervous mom - she lets me check on them, but I can tell it upsets her, so I'll give her a few more days with them before I take pictures.
