That's a very sad thread, although what he used was an actual mixture. The equate spray is in a can. The same can as provent-a-mite but with a differen't label. I would in no way myself use a "mixture" of anything to treat my snakes...even though some that know how to properly use/mix have no problems at all.
The important thing is to use whatever method you decide to go with safely and properly...Whether it's PAM, NiX homebrew, or equate...
Everyone that I have spoken to that uses Equate "Spray" out of the aerosol can uses it the same way they would PAM. I personally after using PAM can say it works great. Others have also had great results from equate as well. Use what you feel comfortable using. People with experience using equate spray have expressed on the forum a few times that they have had great results. Searching on other forums about "equate" I have seen many other praises for the way the product works and it's low price and availability.
I think it's not even so much as saving a few bucks as it is convenience.
If you find out your snakes have mites... Sure you can pay $20 and an extra $5 or so for shipping and wait a week to get your PAM in if you can't get it locally...or you can literally go to any wal-mart which is usually within 15-20 miles of anybody and pickup a can of equate for $3 use it the same way as PAM and bam! no mites!

That is absolutely not true ... if it were, Pro-Products (the creater of Provent -a- Mite) would have a grounds for filing a federal lawsuit against the makers of equate for violating it's patent.
Provent -a- Mite is a patented product ... it is illegal for another company to copy it and sell it under a different name.
Equate may be similar, but telling people that it's the exact same thing in a different can is a lie.
If you have any questions, you should pick up the phone and give my buddy Bob Pound (the owner of Pro-Products) a call ... he'll give you all the details ... 845-628-8960.

Use what you feel comfortable using safely and carefully... Try searching around on other forums and websites if you want to hear about other people's experiences with equate.
Good luck getting rid of those mites and feel free to let us know how it goes...
Have a great day!
