    I HATE AOL

    Get this....

    Back in January I cancelled my AOL account. I had not used my AOL account in a while. They were charging me for December, so I called this January and cancelled my account. I had an owed balance of so much, but the Rep I talked to had told me they would not charge me the balance, that it would be erased and my account would be cancelled. She said I wouldn't have to pay this amount and that she would erase this amount due, due to the fact I had not used my AOL for some time and the fact I kept getting a run-around everytime I had tried cancelling previously. This was January 12th. I just get an "URGENT" Letter from AOL in the mail stating I owe them money and that it must be paid in full, with my account number. I call the number, to talk to them and explain this to them and the fact I was told that I did not have to pay this sum and it would be erased from my account and I was basically called a liar. The guy said "if this were to been said the account money due would have been erased or my college would have left me a note, so sir I sincerely doubt that you were told a this". I asked to speak to someone else, and they wouldn't allow me to speak to someone else. Each time I had called I was directed to someone who sounded like they couldn't speak a word of english. Now I'm stuck paying a bill I shouldnt be after being told I wouldnt have to, and because I haven't been using their services

    There won't be a next time for AOL. I'm through with this company. There service stinks, you get all kinds of viruses and ad-ware using their service even using the proper protection for your PC, and its slow. I don't see how they're still in buissiness! I'm quite tired of how AOL will give you a huge run around, and they don't even treat you like a customer!!!

    They tried to do the same thing with us, but luckily my mom is a calm negotiator. Good luck with getting this straightened out.

    AOL did that this to me about 8 years ago....

    I had an account with them, did not like thier service at all, left alot to be desired... and consistantly in the 6 month period I had service with them, they double billed me for thier service, and then would not correct the error and credit the extra money (which was a good amount) back into my checking account while lying to me saying that they would or were in the process of doing so, so I called them and canceled. After canceling, about 3 months down the road I got a nasty letter from them, probably about the same as you recently got from them, it also told me my account was going to be suspended/disconnected. SO I called them, they had no record that I ever canceled my account, called me a liar pretty much and treated me like crud... in the end I filed a complaint with my bank over the double billing and never saw that back. At some point I wrote them off and all the cash I had lost to AOL due to thier poor business practices, they certainly have a habit of trying to gobble up as much money from ppl for thier sub standard service and poor customer service skills

    As you can see, I think AOL is EVIL....

    I can certainly feel sympathy for you in your situation.

    They've double billed me more than once as well. I'm rather ticked off about them trying to charge me for this when I didn't use their service in that time period. I do feel for you on your situation you had as well. They basically treat people like they're open wallets, rather than customers....and the whole speaking to someone on the phone that sounds like they can't speak a word of english is getting rather tiring. I'm just going to pay the money and tell them to....well you know

    It's what I'm definitely going to do. I still can't believe they treat people this way and they're still in buissiness. I'm sorry it happened to you too Jeanne.

    Man,
    I have been w/ AOL for over 10 years and never had one bit of trouble.
    Every month on the 1st they would charge my CC, only once, just like clockwork.

    Then a few months ago when AOL went free I contacted them I wanted the free service and bang, no more charging me.

    No problems, issues or concerns in all the time of used them.

    Now my cable co. is a whole different story.

    I wish I had $1 for every person I know of who had that happen.. my sister and brother in law.. an ex-coworker.. I too hate aol.. when I hear of people who use it, I just feel bad for them.
