    crazy rtb

my rtb sabrina is a soaker... i've changed the size of her water dish twice now... getting smaller and smaller... so today i look in and what's she doing? she's laying across her water dish with her neck in the water... how pathetic!

now i know she doesn't have any mites... she's been treated twice since i got her (first time she had mites and second time was to make sure since she looooves to soak so much)...

so i'm not really too sure of what to do here... she obviously loves water... so what do i do... give her a water bottle???

    silly bum

well the reason for concern is it can cause disease... respitory disease... so i don't want her to end up unhealthy... but i can't seem to keep her out of her dish.

it's like a little kid - you tell them not to touch the plate and they have one little tiny finger touching the edge...

I thought the danger of snakes soaking too much was scale rot? Can it cause respritory infections as well?

    Re: crazy rtb

Pretty sure RI's are humidity and temperature related and don't really have anything to do with soaking. Scale rot would be the real problem with soaking. But then again I could be wrong.

nope i'm wrong. have to be once a year and so i thought i'd use it up early this year LOL

judy stated in another thread that RI is not caused from extended soaking.

my crazy girl doesn't have any signs of any belly rot, scale rot... etc. she looks great. she's just a brat i guess

    Re: crazy rtb

Maybe if she's that crazy about soaking you could let her have a weekly couple of hours to soak and then take away her "tub", give her a quick dry off and call it good. That shouldn't cause her a problem.

    Re: crazy rtb

Huh! I have 15 Red Tails, 3 Dumerils, and 1 Coastal and NONE of them soak at all. I would be concerned. Whenever a snake soaks it's usually for a reason. I'd up the humidity to 65-70% for a week and see if she stops.

Have you had a fecal done lately? Gone to the vet? Is she in a tank or a tub?

It is really unusual. All of my rtb's have large dishes and none of them ever soak, so (like I said) I'd start looking at the situation a little more closely.
